100 Feet Under
“You miss one hundred percent of the shots that you don't take”, a quote by Michael Jordan. As human beings, it is in our nature to disagree with change. We would rather use and do what has been done already rather than take the chance and start all over. If I would not have taken the chance to start scuba diving when I was offered, I would have missed out on some of the most amazing moments in my life. By getting out of my comfort zone, I learned about a whole new world that truly impacted my life in great ways. Becoming literate in the hobby of scuba diving not only changed my life, but it saved my life.
One day, as I was roaming my house, as most twelve year olds do, I walked into my dad's office. My dad and my older brother were reading this book and arguing over which answer they thought was correct. As an inquisitive adolescent, it was in my nature to go see what they were talking about. My dad saw me and told me that they were looking into a new hobby called scuba diving. I had heard of scuba diving before, but I never knew all of the details that came along with it. My dad was very short with answering my questions because he knew I would be upset when he told me that I was too young. It is safe to say that he could not have been more correct. All I could do is sit back and watch my older brother and dad have the time of their lives learning about this new aquatic experience.
They both reached their goal of becoming scuba certified and I never heard the end of it. I was ready for the day that I turned thirteen.
Turning thirteen is a big day for any kid. They can now say that they are a teenager and that they are “old”. I could not have cared less about all of the names and attributes that came with my age because the only thing I wanted to do was get that scuba diving certification book and be like my brother and dad. As promised, my dad took me to the closest scuba diving shop and

Being able to go on the Key Largo trip this year would be amazing! I remember hearing my cousins and even some friends that have gone in the past years talk about how much fun they had, and how it was a once in a lifetime experience. They told me that once the opportunity came around to take it, so I did. I can remember my first time ever snorkeling. I was six years old vacationing with my family in the Bahamas, Nassau to be exact. I can remember my sister and me holding hands, counting to three, jumping off the boat and into the water without a care in the world. It was so much fun free diving down to the reefs, but we weren’t allowed to touch anything or we would be in big trouble. They also gave us each a bag of food to feed the fish in hopes that they would get close to us. Once we were all in the boat one of the tour guides jumped in the water and brought a starfish and conch shell on board. At first he wouldn’t let me touch it because I pronounced the name wrong. The animals were returned safely to the water and placed back on the reefs. The next year’s vacation was the Dominican Republic. This was also the first time I went swimming with sharks and stingrays. The only thing I did not like about this trip was the fact that the sharks and sting rays were stuck in a cage. But it was also the first time I got to swim with dolphins in a controlled environment to ensure no harm to the animals or myself. The last vacation was snorkeling in Cancun Mexico. Even my grandma went on this trip with us. This was the last time I went snorkeling, other than in my pool, but it’s not the same experience. By going on this Key Largo trip I am hoping to relive and make some of my own memories my senior year. I am also looking forward to experimenting and observing all the different animals Marine Lab has to offer. Maybe I can also find a career in the marine biology field seeing…

Every year we go to the lake and we play on the water. We tube on the lake. We play on the water. We just like to mess around. I just got my boater license and I can now drive the boat by myself. But I am too young to pull a tube behind the boat. I will have to be about 18 before I can. I would like to one day pull one of my family members on a tube. Another thing that I like to doing on the water is slalom. Most people do not know what that is, but it is fun. You are rising on one skee. It takes a long time to learn how to slalom. I have fun and I think you can too. You have to have balance and I think you would like goggles because a lot of water gets in your…

When we got there we each had to fill out papers clearly stating our medical information but, of course, my parents had to sign too. Once everything had been signed we had to wait about thirty minutes for everyone else to get there. I was furious because we had to wear a stupid life jacket and I complained the whole time, saying stuff like I look stupid in this or I don’t wanna wear it. Finally after a while I had finally gotten over it and enjoyed the gorgeous scenery. After everyone had arrived there was almost over one hundred people! I thought it was going to be a group of about ten. After we went over the rules we had to board a bus to the river itself, which was about forty minutes or so. Once we had made it there we were all told to get into a raft and sit on the edges, but, of course my dad was in charge telling us all what to do. After, we had done a couple of rapids it was finally time for a swim break, right away I had fell out and scraped my knee and to make it even worse the water…
