1. How Does Huck Appear To Be Superior To Tom?
How does Huck appear to be superior to Tom?
Huck seems to have matured more than Tom. Although Tom is imaginative, he is not as honest and genuine as Huck. Tom has a little more self interest and bias than Huck does. He withholds the information about Jim until the end of the story and Huck seems to have an internal value system that does not change. Even though he looks up to Tom, Huck seems more of an humanitarian character.

What happens to Jim?
When the doctor appears, bringing Tom on a stretcher and Jim in chains, Tom is comatose due to a fever from the bullet wound, but is still alive. He improves rapidly and is almost completely better by the next day. When Tom hears that Jim has been recaptured he felt irate and shouts at them that

    Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are best friends that have many things in common and many things that are not in common. Tom is better at using his imagination. In the beginning of the Adventures of Huck Finn Tom makes a robber band with the neighborhood boys. Huck soon decides that it is boring because they were not doing anything that Tom promised they would. Huck could not pretend that they were doing what Tom said they were doing. This is again illustrated in the end when Tom and Huck are trying to free Jim and Huck simply cannot see the use of what Tom is doing with all his talk about rope ladders and messages on the walls. Huck is wiser, more sensible, and more grown up. He thinks that Tom is rather silly and nonsensical because he is talking about matters that are not important in the plot of rescuing Jim. Huck understands that the topics that Tom is talking about are not of use. Tom is more daring, civilized, and pushy than Huck. Tom lives with his aunt Polly and wears store bought clothes. He can make Huck do what he wants him to do. Tom is daring enough to help Huck steal Jim and Tom spearheads the mission and he adds all the extra effects. Both Huck and Tom are loyal friends. They did not give each other away when they were living with Aunt Sally. They both knew Jim and they helped him escape from his prison hut. Neither of them are afraid to lie, in fact, most of the book is contains at least one of them lying.…

    When he is separated from Jim, he is concerned for Jim to some degree. He meets the Grangerfords’ and they allow him to stay with them once they realize that he is not a Sheperdson (p.189). The Grangerfords are in a family battle with the Sheperdson’s. When Huck questions the reason for the feud, no one can give him a true answer as to why they are fighting. At this point, Huck Finn realizes that a lot of what happens is strictly influenced by people around you and he does not desire to be a part of this (p.197-198). Huck Finn finds Jim with the help of one of the Grangerford’s slaves, and Huck is overjoyed to know that Jim is alive and well (p. 198-199). This action shows how Huck has changed. Huck Finn cares about something bedsides what other people think. In today’s society people depend on the opinion of other people. If people could put that worry aside, just as Huck Finn does in “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, and focus on what matters most in life, people would have a lot fewer problems. The key point that shows the extent of the transition Huck Finn has made throughout the story is when Huck writes a letter to Tom Sawyer telling Miss Watson where to find Jim at, and then he chooses to tear the letter up and not send it to her (p. 261-262).
