Universities around the world compete to provide their students with different types of learning spaces. Many researchers highlighted the importance of those types spaces and their effect in allowing different opportunities to students. I have also noticed how different spaces allow for different opportunities. The Silent Area at the library, for example, provides students with a very quiet space for reading and focusing on their work without interruption from others and away from the noises that could disturb their thoughts. 4-Try to relate each space to something in the readings
5-Compare (3 & 4) to your own observation (what you saw & heard in those learning spaces)
6-Reflect on your observation: The Ss’ interaction in different spaces, your own feelings & types of interaction when you used those spaces, formality vs. informality, feeling secure/ creative/ etc., availability of resources/ teaching aids e.g. data-show, chalk board, etc.
It is very obvious that so many students come to the university library with their laptops and not a big portion of them use the hardcopies that are stacked on the shelves of the library. This, to a considerable degree, could mean that the students are there for the comfort environment that the library provides more than the actual books that are available, and which students can get online anywhere. The library looks like a center for students’ different daily activities, as it has various areas for different activities such as socializing, eating, group work, silent areas and computer
